My new home…

February 10, 2009

BIG NEWS PEOPLE. I’m moving to Pittsburgh.

Actually I’m typing from there right now. You see, Mermanda and her awesome fiancé Andrew were nice enough to let me move into their fireplace. They just don’t know it yet. Please don’t tell them. I really like it here.

In all seriousness though, I’d totally move into their apartment…if it weren’t haunted.

Let’s start from the beginning.

Saturday my road trip buddy Deutlich and I went to Pittsburgh to hang out with some super awesome folks, but there was a little hole in our plan. We didn’t have anywhere to sleep. This normally isn’t a problem for me because I don’t mind sleeping in my car (kidding…wait, I’m not really kidding) but since I was not alone I devised a super awesome plan to drive to Morgantown after we were done in Pittsburgh. Maybe this was just a ploy to get a certain hokie into mountaineer territory. She’ll never find out the truth. Mwhahaha!

Luckily for both of us Mermanda and Andrew were super freakin awesome and let us stay with them. They didn’t stop there. Andrew hosted a midnight giveaway where I was the only contestant and therefore won. What did I get? Super awesome return address labels… with their address on them. It works though now that I live in their chimney. (I’d love to share how I won the grand prize, but I can’t remember how I won. This makes me think that downing the rest of Drew’s rum and my glass of wine within 5 minutes wasn’t a great idea for my memory)

Mermanda also tucked me in because she’s adorable. I tried to get them to adopt me, but apparently there’s an age limit on that? Their couch was super comfy and I was set for the night.

Except for one thing they failed to mention… their house is HAUNTED. I woke up around 3 AM and there was a mysterious sound coming from somewhere in the room, but I couldn’t seem to pinpoint it. After about a half hour of trying to figure it out I just decided that there was a ghost and named her Julia. We became BFFs and I even asked her if she wanted to snuggle. I made that up.

The next morning we got up bright and early and Andrew cooked us breakfast while we listened to Backstreet Boys! French toast + BSB = best breakfast EVER.

But somewhere between “quit playing games with my heart” and bacon they broke my heart. Mermanda realized sometime during the night that she forgot to tell me one important thing about sleeping in the living room. It was just a sheet blowing in the fireplace (aka my new home). Very depressing.

Andrew was even nice enough to write us some directions, further proving how hilarious he is. (I purpled-out the street names because I don’t want you to try to move into the fireplace with me)

So basically: pittsburgh rocks, mermanda and andrew are the best hosts ever, we played the penis game at dinner (totally unrelated) and if you ever have a chance at meet up with with bloggers (hint hint!) you should definitely do it. They (we) are awesome!

Those are the best directions ever. I wish Google Maps would adopt the “Don’t Fuck Up” direction on their interface. That would rock.

Just make sure you don’t find any secret doors or button-eyed dolls that look like you (“Coraline” reference, in case you haven’t seen it yet).

I’m afraid I can’t go to the big Chicago meet-up, but if you’re going to any meet-ups in DC anytime soon, let me know.

You may be the first person I’ve met not from Pittsburgh that actually enjoyed Pittsburgh.

Nevertheless, I will be there next weekend.

    Those directions really are fantastic.

    “Don’t fuck up.”
    “Go home.”
    “You are nice.”

I think I’d listen to the GPS more if threw out compliments every now and again. Like: “You’re a great driver!” “That other guy was an idiot!”
